Meet Your New York Pelvic Pain Specialist: Dr. Christian Reutter

Dr. Christian Reutter, DO is an osteopathic physician, physiatrist, and expert in women’s and men's health and sexual health. With several years of experience in musculoskeletal and spinal conditions, Dr. Reutter understands that pain within the body can come from multiple places, and that treating that pain involves looking at the whole body.

GET TO KNOW YOUR DOCTOR

WHY DID YOU BECOME A DOCTOR?

I became a physician because I was inspired by my father who was a family medicine physician.  I saw how much he enjoyed his work and the respect and relationships that he developed with his patients in our community.

WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO TREATMENT?

As both an osteopathic physician and a physiatrist, my approach to patients is to "treat the body as a whole" with the goal of restoring function so that patients can return to activities that they enjoy doing.

WHAT MAKES YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING PRM'S COMMUNITY OF PATIENTS?

Seeing patients who have seen multiple other providers with lack of improvement and having the ability to actually help them regain and get back into the activities and things in life they enjoy doing.

HOW DO YOU CARE FOR YOUR PATIENTS?

I am a good listener; it truly means a lot to me to see the best outcome for my patients and I take a personal interest in seeing them progress and recover.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR PATIENTS TO KNOW ABOUT MEETING WITH YOU?

For men: Male patients should not be embarrassed about discussing pelvic pain. Many male patients often suffer needlessly with pain symptoms but in most cases, this pain can be addressed and resolved.  For women: Like my female counterparts in the practice, my goal is to help my patients to see the best path forward and to regain functionality and eventually feel better.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?

Meeting patients, getting their backstory, and improving their quality of life.

WHAT DOES PRM'S MISSION OF "DECREASING THE TIME PATIENTS ARE SUFFERING WITH PELVIC PAIN" MEAN TO YOU?

I reassure them that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We can help most patients significantly in a short while, and with others we can resolve their symptoms over time.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON HELPING THE POPULATION OF WOMEN SUFFERING WITH ENDOMETRIOSIS?

Endometriosis is under diagnosed and unfortunately, most patients end up suffering needlessly for a long time. This is part of the “silent pain” issue. Many people don’t know how to seek out treatment or are told they don’t have endometriosis even when they DO seek treatment – but it turns out they do have endoIt’s important to me when meeting with female patients who are in pain to consider Endometriosis as an underlying diagnosis and make sure that all the appropriate workup and potential treatment is provided.

WHAT'S SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT PELVIC HEALTH?

Most people don’t understand pelvic health. I love explaining the pelvic floor anatomy, what the pelvic floor does, what pelvic conditions are, and letting patients know that pelvic pain conditions are typically treatable.
