GET TO KNOW YOUR DOCTOR

WHY DID YOU BECOME A DOCTOR?

There were no doctors in my family, and my mom had developed a condition with which she needed help navigating. I saw firsthand as to how a chronic health problem can impact a person’s life and I I wanted to be the one to help her and other people facing similar challenges in life, so I became a doctor. I later found that being a doctor serves humanity to a bigger extent and that it’s gratifying work. I feel very lucky to be a gynecology doctor, as I am passionate about women’s health. I feel humbled to have the opportunity to  serve women with the excellent care which they deserve.

WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO TREATMENT?

I believe that the most important part of treatment is listening to my patients first. I want to understand their experiences, where they are coming from, what treatments they have already undergone, what has worked and what has not, and to understand their goals. I can determine whether they will benefit from surgery and what kind of balance in treatment they will need. It is important for patients to be heard and to not be pushed away.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON HELPNG THE POPULATION OF WOMEN SUFFERING WITH ENDOMETRIOSIS?

I see people from various walks of life and as a woman, I can understand where they’re coming from and provide them support throughout their journey.   Endometriosis is a chronic and painful condition that can impact women’s lives profoundly. It is just like a cancer but with benign pathology and – it needs follow up and support. Those with endometriosis need a specialist who understands this, and they need a support system. They need someone who can understand their pain and to help them get from point A to point B.   Endometriosis is very under-researched, as not one thing fits everybody. Women must be understood, and we need to partner with them because everyone and every endo case is different.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT PELVIC HEALTH?

Pelvic health is important for everyone regardless of age, gender, or activity level.  The pelvis joins the upper and lower body together, and it supports every activity we do. We use and overuse it without realizing it. We go through different phases in our lives like childbirth and pregnancy which can have profound effects in our pelvis.    If you are having pelvic pain or other related problems, please seek help. There  are effective treatments available.
