GET TO KNOW YOUR DOCTOR

WHY DID YOU BECOME A DOCTOR?

I've always wanted to help people take care of themselves, and I’ve always enjoyed wellness and nourishment. A lot of my undergrad experience was in the ER, and people were there because of poor lifestyle choices.

WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO TREATMENT?

The biggest thing is that our patient population has had a long and difficult journey to seek medical care to treat their pelvic pain. It's nice to be part of a treatment plan that works. Chronic pelvic pain affects so many aspects of your life: relationships, day to day, every aspect of their life.

WHAT MAKES YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING PRM'S COMMUNITY OF PATIENTS?

Patience, trust, and openness are key. I’ve seen many patients who are in pain but have been told by other doctors in the past that nothing is wrong, and I know how frustrating it is to feel like you’re not being heard. Really listening to my patients is at the core of my treatment philosophy.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE PATIENT CARE?

Open communication and providing an environment that is non-judgmental. Listening, being compassionate, and accepting their symptoms. They’ve been gaslit and sent away because doctors don’t understand their symptoms. Patients are really grateful to just have someone that is acknowledging what they're going through.  The most important thing is listening to what their symptoms are, what has helped, what makes it better/what makes it worse, and tailoring a treatment plan based on what they tell me. Listening is the biggest thing. I always teach anatomy of the pelvis, so patients can understand their symptoms better and so they can understand the plan better too.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?

Being able to provide relief and being able to provide a better quality of life for patients. I also love getting to know people, what they do, who they are, and what is important to them.

WHAT DOES PRM'S MISSION OF "DECREASING THE TIME PATIENTS ARE SUFFERING WITH PELVIC PAIN" MEAN TO YOU?

One of the biggest reasons why patients don’t seek help is because their symptoms are normalized (“Mom told me that’s how it is”) and this is part of why they’ve been silenced – and they’ve been silenced because they’ve previously sought out other doctors who may have told them that what they are experience is normal, leading them to not want to seek out other doctors.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON HELPING THE POPULATION OF WOMEN SUFFERING WITH ENDOMETRIOSIS?

Traditionally, it's known that its 1 in 10 women have endometriosis, but we are finding its now 1 in 9. Those suffering have had their symptoms normalized and they have never been diagnosed because in the world of endo, not many endometriosis specialists because, unfortunately, there is not enough education and awareness of endometriosis in the general medical community.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT PELVIC HEALTH?

There are a lot of taboos about pelvic issues and health and there are so many people that suffer. If we normalize talking to a provider about their symptoms and pain, patients will find there are treatments available to them.
