Meet Your West Palm Beach Pelvic Pain Specialist: Dr. Sandra Sandhu-Restaino

Dr. Sandra Sandhu-Restaino, DO is a physiatrist who is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is an expert in women’s and men’s health and sexual health and has been practicing pain management and rehabilitation in Florida for over five years. She is passionate about seeing her patients find long-lasting pain relief through PRM’s multi-modal approach to treatment, that is non-surgical and non-hormonal.   Understanding that many people who experience pelvic pain are unaware that this treatment option is available, she wants her patients to know that they don’t need to go to the extremes to find relief – there is a more conservative approach available at PRM. Dr. Sandhu-Restaino is an empathetic listener, who validates the symptoms and experiences her patients have. She wants them to know that medical gaslighting is real, but we know that the pain they are feeling is REAL and not in their head.   Additionally, as a pelvic pain specialist who treats pain related to endometriosis, she knows that because 1 in 9 women have endo, it's easy to come across knowing someone who has it – or you have it yourself – and she wants patients to know that treatments is available for those suffering with endometriosis.

GET TO KNOW YOUR DOCTOR

WHY DID YOU BECOME A DOCTOR?

One of my relatives had an illness when I was younger, and I think that was what sparked my interest in helping people to overcome health problems. I’m fascinated by chronic pain and I really enjoy working directly with patients to help them overcome their pain and regain function.

WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO TREATMENT?

My approach to treating pelvic pain and dysfunction focuses on improvement of function, setting achievable goals for rehabilitation and measuring progress throughout the course of her patients’ journey to a higher quality of life.

When Dr. Sandhu-Restaino creates a treatment plan, she doesn’t just address musculoskeletal issues but also factors in diet, lifestyle, and any other issues that may contribute to the root causes of pelvic pain.

WHAT MAKES YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING PRM'S COMMUNITY OF PATIENTS?

Seeing them get better and seeing how our multi modal approach works to provide long lasting relief for patientsAt PRM, our non-surgical, non-hormonal treatment approach makes us unique and seeing how well this works makes it exciting.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE PATIENT CARE?

Establishing a trusting relationship with my patients is important to me. I lend my patients a listening ear, letting them know I’m hearing them and acknowledging their past experiences. I assure patients that we are collaborating with their care team and that we are all on the same page to achieve their goal of finding relief.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?

It feels great when I’m able to help my patients make real, recognizable progress in improving their physical function and pain levels. It’s always really rewarding when I know that I’ve helped someone enjoy their life more.

WHAT DOES PRM'S MISSION OF "DECREASING THE TIME PATIENTS ARE SUFFERING WITH PELVIC PAIN" MEAN TO YOU?

Patients are not really aware that we have this treatment option available to them, so they may think they need to go to the extreme, which may mean having surgery, and they tend to not seek out care for a conservative approach. At PRM, we listen to them, validate their experiences, and offer them a treatment plan that works best for their symptoms, body, and lifestyle.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON HELPING THE POPULATION OF WOMEN SUFFERING WITH ENDOMETRIOSIS?

Knowing that 1 in 9 women have endo, it's pretty easy to come across knowing someone with endometriosis or even having it yourself. But the good news is that there are treatment options out there for endo sufferers – and it starts here at PRM

WHAT'S SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT PELVIC HEALTH?

Treating pelvic pain isn’t just about addressing the physical symptoms and musculoskeletal issues, it’s about addressing all aspects of lifestyle and health that could be contributing. That means factoring in things like diet, exercise, and any underlying issues in the patient’s medical history that may be impacting their experience of pelvic pain.
